Dancing in Ibizia
If you are interested
in getting a dancing job in Ibiza, your best bet is to just go out to the island in mid-May and check all the local bars,
clubs and promoters. Although it may sound harsh, you need to bear in mind beforehand that good looks and a good figure will
be a huge asset, and probably matter even more than your actual dancing skills. If you have the combination of both then you’re
definitely on to a winner. What's the pay like? There are local parades that you can be hired for, at a typical
rate of E20 for a 2-4 hour parade, but most of the dancing gigs will be at the bars and clubs. These gigs pay an average of
E50 for a 4-6 hour shift so if you’re going to do this job, you’d better have some stamina. Although it’s
not a great hourly rate, one of the perks of being a dancer in Ibiza is that most bars will offer the dancers free drinks
and free entrance into the clubs so if your dream is to spend all night dancing on a podium and sipping vodka lemon then you’ve
got that covered. You might also receive offers to dance at local parties, or even just get invited to come and relax. Unfortunately,
there won't be a lot of down time as a dancer though, as you will most likely be working 5 or 6 days a week. Top
TipsBefore undertaking a dancing job in Ibiza, make sure you are in good physical shape. You will be on your feet
a good part of the day/night, and some of the patrons may be a little too friendly, which will result in your having to fight
off unwanted advances, so don’t do it unless you can look after yourself. Some of the most sought after dancing
jobs in Ibiza are at the big clubs like Privilege, Pacha, Es Paradis and these are probably considered the top of the tree
in terms of jobs. If you’re new to the island, you may want to start small and get familiar with the dancing routine,
atmosphere and culture of the big clubs before going for a dancing job at one of the big Ibiza nights.
Have you got what it takes? If it’s your first time dancing in Ibiza (professionally) think about hitting
some of the smaller clubs on the strip, many of which have dancers but there's less pressure and competition. The competition
is definitely something you should be prepared for – if you look at any of the pictures of Ibiza dancers on the internet
or in the press you’ll notice they all have a certain look: model. Could be lingerie model, girl next-door model, waif
model, whatever. If you want to land the job then you’ve got to make the very best of your assets every time you go
for an audition/interview. If you turn up to Pacha in a dirty tracksuit with no make up then it’s unlikely that you’re
going to look like someone who would fit in as one of the club’s renownedly beautiful Pacha People. Work it!
